Great place to buy a car. Sales and service staff very knowledgeable and professional. Will go there again.
Stopped by CarMax in Wilmington and was immediately greeted and a saleswoman took me out to the lot. I told her what I was looking for and test drove a couple cars. She was very nice and even went through the process of letting me know how much payments would be, etc., if I bought it. I wanted to have my boyfriend see the car before making a final decision so I told her that I would likely be back in a couple of days. I got an auto-email from her and I responded to say I would be back on Friday and asked if she'd be working. I got no response. We went on Friday anyways and worked with someone else and bought the car. The experience was fine. I drove the car two times before the tire pressure light came on and I had to put air in all four tires on my way to work one day. (Not happy about that.) Then a few more days went by and I had not gotten anything about my registration so I called and they told me to come in and just get a new plate (I had requested to transfer my old plate but at this point it was expired since it had taken too long). I went there and they handed the new plate to me. I asked if someone could please put it on for me and they got the guy who sold me the car. He put it on but didn't even ask how I was liking the car, etc. I left feeling like it was all about the sale. Not bad, not great. Just eh...
Process of purchasing my Toyota Rav4 was positive. Salesman was excellent. No pressure. My issue is with the experience after the purchase. Discovered a low level vibration in the vehicle that should have been identified by CarMax during their "125 Point CarMax Inspection". Difficult to get reach the service department by phone and to get an appointment with the service department quickly. When I did the problem was diagnosed as a 4 wheel balance which was performed but didn't fix the problem. At my second visit to service it was discovered that 1 tire was out of round. It was ordered, then replaced. I was told that was all that could be done. This did improve the ride (less vibration) but issue was still present. An independent evaluation showed the remaining original tires were scalloped. 31K miles on the vehicle. Tires need to be replaced and balanced. I will have this done at another location. In my opinion the "125 Point Car Max Inspection" touted by CarMax should have caught this issue and it should have been taken care of before CarMax sold the vehicle. In my opinion, I should be compensated for the cost of replacing these tires.
It was a very simple and straightforward experience. I commented to the associate who took care of my paperwork that none of the other customers had that familiar worn down look Ive seen so often at dealerships. I was in and out pretty quickly. I got financing details worked out online and there were no surprises when I got there. I compared the pricing with Kelly Blue Book and other online sources and it was fair.
Buying a car from CarMax Wilmington was a pleasure! Every single member of staff we encountered was helpful and polite. The non haggle price is a very smart model to use for business because you are not waiting hours for someone to consult a manager regarding a price. This is a fantastic organization with wonderful staff, particularly a chap called Kyle! Thank you CarMax!
