This is a wonderful museum for those interested in railroad history. They also have several model train setups that are fun for all ages. I bought an annual membership so that I can take my grandchildren as often as they'd like to go. So far, their interest has not worn out!
Not only interesting history of railroads (with many insights on the famous Atlantic Coast Line once headquartered here), but also elaborate model railroads. Check out the exact model (with running trains) of the old rail yard that sat on this site (including the roundhouse). Toys for energetic kids are available and an actual 4-6-0 locomotive sits outside the main entrance (great photo opportunity even when the museum is closed). Finally, real caboose is stationed out front and can be rented for parties.
What a little treasure! My kids enjoyed the museum very much. There were Christmas displays for the season which were beautiful. And it's near to the Cotton Exchange so you can pop over there for more activities after.
This was a fantastic trip with my four-year-old grandson. He absolutely had a blast running from train display to train display. He also enjoyed riding the full size steam engine, the Caboose, and boxcar. If you haven't been there yet, do yourself a favor and go. You will enjoy it.
First time here and it was pouring down rain so it was a nice activity to do inside! Children and all ages will love to see the huge train display and will enjoy reading and seeing all of the history! This time of year its nicely decorated for Christmas!
