This place has gotten worse since Dr. Kesler retired . The front desk staff need to leave their attitudes at the door because they are unprofessional, they never start on time. They wouldn't even see me the other day all because of my insurance got cancelled but you know what it's all good. I will see y'all on Monday!
Just had my 2-week check after cataract surgery by Dr. Robert van der Vaart and I am seeing 20/20 again in my left eye! Thank you Dr. van der Vaart!! The multi-focal lens is working exactly as you said it would, and to me, the lens is well worth the money. Regarding the other reviews, I agree that the wait time can be long at times. I have had several visits at both offices (Med Ctr Dr and Porter's Neck), and I can say that only 1 or 2 visits were off schedule. I find the same situation happens at almost all medical and dental offices due to unexpected issues/questions from patients. I think that the team at Carolina Coastal Eye tries to keep everything on schedule. Overall, this is a sharp, well-informed doctor and a professional medical office. I know that Ill have Dr. van der Vaart fix my other eye done in a few months -- no need to go elsewhere.Update on the multi-focal lens (6 weeks post surgery): I had some difficultly using a rifle scope with the multi-focal lens. I'm not an avid shooter so it could have been just me. If you are a shooter or a photographer where focusing on 2 points of reference is important, you may want to discuss how a multi-focal lens works and whether it is right for you. Otherwise, the multi-focal lens is great during the day. There is some glare from headlights at night. Overall, I think that the multi-focal lens is still worth the extra money.
ZERO STARS FOR THE FRONT DESK PEOPLE and MANAGEMENT - EXTREMELY RUDE, and the wait times can be RIDICULOUS!!!And they make you FILL OUT NEW PAPERWORK BY HAND EVERY YEAR - EVEN THING THAT NEVER CHANGES LIKE YOUR BIRTHDAY, ECT., ECT !!!However, after we met with Dr. van der Vaart, he informed us that we could just put "no change" in the sections where there was no change. Hopefully the front desk staff will get the message and treat people with better customer service in the future. We are still planning on going back next year just because we Dr. van der Vaart so much.Guess they at the front desk don't really understand the point of Electronic Medical Records !!! And not customer / patient service either.VERY bad administration and management!!!!! And the air conditioning was out in the examination room, and it was very uncomfortable. But Five Stars for Dr. Robert van der Vaart - a great ophthalmologist! (Despite the front desk staff during our last visit). My son had an eye injury in 2016 and Dr. van der Vaart was on call and met us Friday night at the hospital emergency department. He met with us again the next day on Saturday in his office. The following week we met with him three more times. His bedside manner and expertise and medical care is beyond awesome! He takes time to take care of the situation, and make sure the patient and family understands everything as much as necessary!!!Five stars is not enough to describe the quality of care this doctor provides!!!
Dr. Vandervart is great! He listens to understand he educates the patient and he cares.
